Laundry Room Organization Basics

Laundry is a never-ending cycle, but there are ways to make it less of a hassle. A great way to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your laundry day is to organize your laundry room. But where do you start? Here are some tips for ways to add order to the chaos of your laundry room.

Drying Bars & Racks

Air-drying clothes can take up a lot of room, especially if you're short on laundry space to begin with. One way to mitigate this is with simple tension or curtain rods. Hanging rods between cabinets, above doors or from the ceiling expands the amount of space you have to hang wet clothes.

Another clever way to save space with air-drying laundry is to install wall-mounted drying racks. These racks fold up against the wall when not in use, making them practically invisible. When you need them, they provide multiple rungs for hanging laundry while keeping it off the floor. For a funky, rustic vibe, try hanging a ladder from the ceiling for additional hanging space.

Labeled Sorting Bins

Sorting your laundry is one of the best things you can do to keep your clothing and textiles in good shape. Some fabrics require special treatments like air-drying, fabric softeners or specific temperatures. Many prefer to sort light and dark colors for their laundry to prevent the risk of dye bleeding onto other garments. These are all examples of why adding labels to your laundry sorting system is worth the effort.

If you have the space, consider having multiple laundry baskets to collect and separate laundry. To save room, try using stackable storage bins or drawer units. Having everything clearly labeled will take the mystery out of a load of laundry and save you time that would normally be spent separating items manually.
